Statement on Second Presidential Debate
NORTHBROOK, IL— Democrat Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the below statement following tonight’s second presidential debate at Washington University in St. Louis:
“Tonight we watched the Republican nominee for President threaten to imprison his political opponent if elected. This shocking attack on our democratic system is yet more evidence that Donald Trump is dangerously unfit to lead our nation and Hillary Clinton is the only qualified candidate in this race,” said Schneider. “It is unacceptable that Bob Dold continues to equate these two candidates in his advertising. He must stop campaigning against Hillary Clinton and urge his supporters to reject Trump. Anything less enables the rise of Donald Trump.”
Background:
- Dold recently began airing a new television advertisement that absurdly equates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. The ad begins by juxtaposing a clip of Trump calling Clinton “the devil” to Hillary Clinton asking about Donald Trump’s record.
- Dold recently headlined a fundraiser to “Beat Hillary at the Distillery,” to raise money for pro-Trump political groups.
- Dold still refuses to say who he will vote for in November, recently suggesting he will cast his ballot for a yet-to-be-named write-in candidate, which under Illinois’ law would not be counted.
