Union Cites Schneider’s Record of Support for Public Transit and Working Families

Deerfield, IL –  Today, Democrat Brad Schneider (IL-10) announced the endorsement of the Amalgamated Transit Union International.

“We are proud to support Brad Schneider for Congress because he has been a true champion of public transit and a true friend of working families,” said Amalgamated Transit Union International President Larry Hanley.  “Schneider understands that people of the 10th Congressional District of Illinois depend on public transportation every day to get to work, school, the doctor and other daily tasks.   When Schneider previously served in Congress, he delivered for middle class families, protected the rights of workers and fought for public transit. Schneider is the right choice for Illinois.”

“It’s once again a great honor to earn the endorsement of the Amalgamated Transit Union,” said Brad Schneider. “World-class transit systems are essential to grow our economy and create quality jobs, to revitalize our communities, and to preserve our environment.  I’m truly proud to fight alongside ATU for an economy that works for everyone.”

The Amalgamated Transit Union is the largest labor organization representing transit workers in the United States and Canada. Founded in 1892, the ATU today is comprised of over 190,000 members in 264 local unions spread across 44 states and nine provinces, including 16,000 active and retiree members in Illinois. Composed of bus drivers, light rail operators, maintenance and clerical personnel and other transit and municipal employees, the ATU works to promote transit issues and fights for the interests of its hard-working members.

Locally Brad’s work in the community and in Congress has earned the formal endorsement of more than 50 current and former elected officials, including Secretary of State Jesse White, Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle, six state senators, two state reps, seven mayors and village presidents, four Lake County Board members, one Township Supervisor, and many more municipal leaders.

Brad’s leadership has also been recognized and earned the early endorsements of several other labor union locals, including SEIU Illinois State Council, UAW Region 4, Illinois State Association of Letter Carriers, Pipefitters, Sheet Metal Workers, Lake Country Federation of Teachers, IBEW and others.  He has also earned the national endorsements of the National Jewish Democratic Committee and JACPAC.

Brad has the support of his former colleagues in Congress, including:  Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, Assistant Democratic Leader Jim Clyburn, Democratic Caucus Chair Xavier Becerra, 7 House Committee Ranking Members, 7 members of the Illinois Delegation, the New Democrat Coalition, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
