The President’s public support for marriage equality was a watershed moment for equal rights in this country. I have long believed that anything less than full marriage equality is simply wrong, and I also know that equal rights don’t stop at the altar. In 29 states, you can legally be fired based simply on your sexual orientation, and in 34 states based on your sexual identity. The Employment Non-Discrimination Act would end this unjust practice. And yet, Congress and my opponent continue to oppose the most basic workplace protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender employees. Equality means equality for all. Period.
